Day 1: Arrival

Distance: around the city (20-30minutes)

On your arrival in Kathmandu, our driver will pick you up for the hotel drop. After checking into the hotel, you will be offered welcome drinks to enjoy. With little freshen up, our guide will brief you the entire itinerary of this trek. The guide will also check your necessary luggage weight before you proceed for your trekking. It is advisable to take little rest in the hotel before proceeding for your Upper Mustang trek.

Optional: You can stroll across the beautiful streets around the capital city. This city is believed to be one of the oldest cities in Nepal. While strolling across Kathmandu, one will explore the rich cultural heritage of the country. Many people love to visit the busy streets of Kathmandu to explore the nightlife of the city.

Day 2: Fly or drive to Pokhara

Meal: B/L/D

Altitude: 1400m

Distance: 205km (1hrs flight and 6hrs via road)

Today you will be proceeding towards cultural capital of Nepal, Pokhara. It will be a scenic drive across the mountains. Located in the laps of mountains you will be driving along the banks of Trishuli River. It will be a pleasant experience to drive to this landform. For the mountain lovers, Pokhara remains as the dream route way to explore Annapurna or Mt. Everest. After reaching this beautiful landscape you will check into the hotel. During the time of twilight, the tourists can visit Phewa Lake. The beautiful sight of the lake and the amazing reflection of the surrounding mountains will leave an indelible impact in your mind. The crimson red colored sky and the surrounding mountains will take you to paradise. At night you will stay in Pokhara.

Day 3: Fly to Jomsom and then trek to Kagbeni

Altitude: Jomsom-2720m, Kagbeni-2804m

Distance: 12km

Time taken: 4-5hrs (approx.)

Today early morning you will be flying towards Jomsom. It is advisable to take a morning flight for clear weather. A small aircraft is used mostly for carrying the passengers to Jomsom. The aircraft will be flying across the deep gorges and mountains. The close view of these mountains will be a lifetime experience. Jomsom is the district headquarters of Mustang with a spectacular panoramic view of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges. After reaching Jomsom, you will start for your trekking towards Kagbeni. You will cross a small suspended bridge built on the banks of Kali Gandaki river. On the trekking trails, the tourists find out loose rocks and stones. It will be a comfort trek across this landscape. On the trails, the tourists find out spectacular views of alleys, canals, wheat fields and monasteries. The view of Tukuche, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri will be a constant companion on your way till Kagbeni. At night you will stay in Kagbeni.

Day 4: Trek to Chele from Kagbeni

Altitude: 3050m

Distance: 15km

Time taken: 7hrs (approx.)

Today you will be trekking towards Chele. You will head towards the northern end of Kagbeni village. Here the administrative officers will check your permit details and documentation before proceeding towards Chele. You will start your day with the steep climb up of the eastern facet of the gorge. With little inclination, you will find an amazing sight of the valley of Kagbeni. The undulated landscape will be an added experience for the trekkers in this particular route. You will take a few hours to reach the top of the hill. Gradually you will descend on the other side of the hill to reach Tangbe, the first village after Kagbeni. This beautiful village is located on the deep gorges of Kali Gandaki River. The narrow trails, beautiful monasteries make the village beautiful. In 15th or 16th centuries, this village was used as the trade route for salt between Nepal and Tibet. With little inclination and declination, you will reach Chhusang. Here you will complete your lunch. From Tangbe it will take another 1hr to reach Chhusang. You will take the northern trails from Tangbe to reach here. This beautiful village is built on the confluence of Narshing Khola and Kali Gandaki rivers. On this trail, you will find the complete engagement of local people in farming. The village is encircled with three hamlets keeping Tangma in the north of Narshing Khola, Braga in south and Cykiab in the west of Braga. You will find ochre colored cliff dominating the landscape. Post lunch you will trek towards the bridge located at the bottom of Chele. This small bridge is built to cross the wild cascading water of Kali Gandaki River. Chele is the village located around 2hrs from Chhusang on the western facet of Kali Gandaki. On the trekking trails, you will find out the wide ruins of the village. At night you will stay in Chele.

Day 5: Trek to Syangboche via Taklam La Pass and Dajori La Pass

Altitude: Syanboche-3800m, Taklam La Pass-3600m, Dajori La Pass-3650m

Distance: 11km

Time taken: 8hrs (approx.)

Today you will be trekking towards Syangboche. From here you will be taking undulating trekking trails to reach Syangboche. It will be a constant incline and descent across the plain to reach your next destination. Today you will have to take ups and downs to reach Syangboche. With the little rise, you will reach the deep canyon. A suspended bridge is built opposite to this canyon close to Ghyakar village. From Chele, it will be a 1hr walk. En route, you will participate in engaging interaction with Gurung people living on the valley. This ethnic group earns a living hood on agriculture. With little inclination, you will reach Taklam La Pass. From there you will be climbing down to Dajori La Pass. From there you will descend to reach Samar. From Ghyakar village it is a 2hrs walk. While reaching this village, you will get a clear panoramic view of Himalayas. In the 15th and 16th centuries, this village is used as the trade route between Nepal and Tibet. Around the village, you will find out apple and apricot orchards. Post lunch you will climb down after reaching the beautiful village of Samar. After the descent, you will have to again climb up till Bhena. On this trekking trails, the natural beauty remains as your constant companion. You will find out the amazing sight of Damodar Danda, Tilicho. Again you will have to climb up from Bhena to reach the spectacular pass of Yamada La Pass. From this pass, the landforms have slanted down to meet the wide riverbed. With a short trek, you will reach Syangboche. The pilgrims traveling towards Kailash Mansarovar via road use this route to reach this religious site. The amazing natural view will make your day perfect. At night you will stay in Syangboche.

Day 6: Trek to Ghami via NYI La Pass

Meal: B/L/D

Altitude: Ghami-3520m, Nyi La Pass-4000m

Distance: 9.3km

Time taken: 5-6hrs (approx.)

Today you will start for the day early. You will start climbing up to the Yamda La Pass. This pass lies in the Khumbu Everest region. While trekking along the trail you will be amazed at the natural beauty of Gokyo Lake in the west. Then you will walk down to reach Gheling. You will visit the local monastery situated at Gheling. This monastery belongs to the Sakya clan of Buddhism. From there you will be walking towards Nya La Pass located at a height of 4010m. On this trail, you will find teahouses and small monasteries built along the sides. The natural scenic beauty will be a complete companion of yours in this particular trek. You will enjoy the panoramic sight of the surrounding mountains along with the barley fields. This landscape will show you a blend of fertile and barren lands. The eroded canyons, deep valleys, and wide extensive views of mountains will dominate today’s trek. After reaching the pass, you will slightly climb down to reach Ghami. The red cliffs and the terraced fields give a picturesque view to the village. At night you will stay in one of the small courtyard houses located in Ghemi. This village lies in Lo Munthang region separating Nepal from Tibet. The fascinating maze kind of streets will be an amazing experience completely for the trekkers.

Day 7: Trek to Tsarang

Meal: B/L/D

Altitude: Tsarang-3560m, Mui La Pass-4000m

Distance: 10.7km  

Time taken: 6hrs (approx.)

Today you will be trekking towards Tsarang. This small village is situated in Dhawalgiri zone in north Nepal. A low settlement is there in this region. You will climb down to reach a small suspended steel bridge located nearby. It will be a slippery path with loose rocks. The trekkers should be cautious enough to cover this region. Then you will reach Mani wall, the longest wall built in the Mustang region. The myth is quite famous among this region that inside the walls there were intestines of the demons slain by Guru Rinpoche. Today you will explore the folklore through your guide or local people about Padmasambhava, founder of Tibetan Buddhism. Then you will climb up Chingel La Pass where you will find out the amazing sight of Tilicho and Nilgiri peaks. After crossing the steep pass of Tsarang La Pass, you will enter the vicinity of Tsarang Village. The main attraction of this village is a monastery and the royal palace located at high altitude. You will get a spectacle of an interesting monastic complex located in the vicinity of the landscape. The double door entrance made of woods will be the perfect example of the mythic figure. Inside the temple wall, you will find an amazing picturesque view of Vajradhara Buddha. The figurine of Buddha is adored by the spiritual thinkers of Sakya clan following the principles of Hevjra tantra. Inside the monastery, you will find the large canvas with the painting of Padmasambhava. While entering this beautiful monastery, you will feel like entering a heavenly land. The spiritual aura will recover the tiredness of your arduous trek. At night you will stay in the village of Tsarang.

Day 8: Trek to Lo Manthang via Ghar Gompa

Meal: B/L/D

Altitude: Lo Manthang-3840m

Distance: 11km 

Time taken: 4-5hrs (approx.)

Today you will head toward Lo Manthang from Tsarang. There are two routes that are available in this particular site. One is comparatively steeper than the other one. Usually, the trekkers take the less steep route for its direct path towards the pass. Both the routes are coming out of Dhakmar. In the steeper route, one will have to take a route along the tops of the cliff. In both the routes, one will get a wonderful spectacle of Nilgiri and Annapurna mountains. If you are fortunate enough then you can catch the glimpse of migrating cranes from Tibet. The natural beauty will completely allure your sight. En route the trekking trail, you will visit a small monastery. After a little rest, you will climb up to Chogo La. From this height, one will enjoy the scenic beauty of the landscape. From there on will climb down to Lo Manthang. On the way, you will come across several difficult trails. It is the beauty of the Upper Mustang region.

Day 9: Exploring Chhoser and the sky caves

Altitude: 3840m

Distance: around the valley

Time taken: 4-5hrs (approx.)

Today you will explore the beautiful region of Chhoser. You will find out mysterious sky caves located around the region. It is believed that the ecstatic mystery of the Mustang region. It is said earlier these caves are used for burial purpose. While exploring these caves you will find out the rich cultural history of the Mustang region. Without visiting this region, one will never understand age long forgotten civilization. You can also visit Thinggar and Namgyal valleys. At night you will stay in Lo Manthang village.

Day 10: Trek to Yara via Dhi La Pass

Meal: B/L/D

Altitude: Yara-3650m, Dhi La Pass-4100m

Distance: 16km

Time taken: 8-9hrs (approx.)

Today you will start for your trekking towards Yara. You will take a steep inclination before changing your course towards the canyon made in Dhi village. You will continue towards Dhi village along the riverbed to reach Yara. Today it will be a rigorous trek for its rugged landscape. Post lunch you can visit the local cave called Tashi Kabum famous for its beautiful paintings and monastic structure located during old times. The archeologists usually go out for excavation of fossil around this region. You will enjoy this cultural trek across this region. At night you will stay in Yara. 

Day 11: Trek to Tange

Meal: B/L/D

Altitude: 3240m

Distance: 20km

Time taken: 9-10hrs (approx.)

Today you will be trekking towards Tange from Yara. You will be crossing amazing caves built on the deep gorges of Kali Gandaki River. You will have to take a vertical climb only to reach your destination. The trekkers consider this trail as one of the most difficult one. Due to the narrow trekking trail, one will have to be quite conscious about the route. From there you will cross many beautiful canyons to reach Tange. En route, you will cross the pass located at an elevation of 3900m. On the way, you will get astounding views of Mustang valley and Annapurna ranges. Then you will climb down along the rugged path to reach the village of Tange. At night you will stay in Tange.

Day 12: Trek to Chhusang

Meal: B/L/D

Altitude: 3000m

Distance: 20km

Time taken: 8-9hrs (approx.)

Today you trek towards Chhusang. It will take around 9hrs to reach your destination making it the longest trek. On your path towards Chhusang, you will reach the optimum height of 4218m in Paha. You will take the route of Siyarko Tangk Danda. The panoramic view of mystic Himalayas, red cliff and the local villages will dominate your views for today’s trek. On the way, you will also catch a glimpse of salt mine located in Mustang Valley. In ancient time, this place was considered as the hub of the salt trade route between Nepal and Tibet. In this trekking route, you will get a spectacular view of Mustang valley along with the dominating sight of majestic Himalayas. While trekking across the village, you can interact with local people to encounter their rich cultural practices. At night you will stay in Tetang village.

Day 13: Trek to Muktinath via Gyu La Pass and then drive to Jomsom via Lupra Valley

Altitude: Muktinath-3710m, Gyu La Pass0-4080m

Distance: 22km

Time taken: 10hrs (approx.)

Today you will take around 8hrs across the arid desert region of Mustang valley to reach one of the religious sites of Upper Mustang region, Muktinath. It will be an arduous journey on your way towards Muktinath valley via Tetang village. So today you will be trekking across Jhong village following the mountain ranges of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna. This beautiful temple architecture is built on the holy river water of Kali Gandaki. This temple is equally famous among the Buddhists and Hindus. Before entering the temple shrine, one can take bath from the holy water directing from Kali Gandaki River inside the temple complex. After paying respect to the Muktinath temple, you will reach Ranipauwa village. From there you will find out the vehicle waiting on the other side of the trail. Then you will drive back to Jomsom.

Day 14: Flight back to Pokhara

Meal: – B/L/D

Distance: -155km (20minutes flight) and then local sightseeing around the city

Next day you will be flying back to Pokhara. This place is known to be the tourism capital of Nepal. The tourists visit this amazing place for its natural beauty. The mountain seekers use this trekking route for Annapurna and Everest Base Camp summit. In this route, the tourists will enjoy the abundance of nature. The amazing sight will leave an indelible impact in your mind. The flabbergasted sight of snow-capped peaks will be an exquisite sight to enjoy. After completing the breakfast, you will be going out for Pokhara sightseeing. Firstly you will start with the famous Bindebasini temple. It is one of the earliest temple shrines venerated by Kaski rulers in Pokhara. Devi Durga is the primary idol to be worshipped in this temple. Then you will be visiting Davi’s falls. It is located in Kaski district. The tunnel of the waterfall is 150m long. The local calls the waterfall as Patale Chango, meaning “underworld waterfall”. The falls pass to the cave known as Gupteshwar cave. You will find the beautiful statue of Lord Shiva inside the cave. The natural deposit of limestone and the cascading water from Davi’s falls make the place more exotic. The tourists travel to this mystic site for recreational purpose.

Optional: If you are adventurous at heart then you must indulge in experiencing the best kind of sports located in the mountainous terrains of Pokhara. The bungee jumping, paragliding, zip flying, river rafting, and many more sports will uplift your adventurous spree. At night you will stay in Pokhara.

Day 15: Drive to Kathmandu

You have reached the last stretch of your journey. After enjoying the morning sunrise across the mountains, you will start for your day. The natural scenic beauty will remain etched in your heart. Strenuous


This horse-riding adventure is suitable for beginners and experts alike; no previous experience is necessary. During our trek, we will be hiking or horseback riding 5 to 8 hours a day on steep and rocky mountain trails, mostly at elevations above 11,000 feet. We spend 12 nights camping in tents and 5 nights in local lodges. Porters or pack animals carry gear and camp supplies. Prior experience at high elevation and a signed medical form from your doctor may be required.
