Why Kailash Yatra

Mt. Kailash, the sacred mountain and the abode of the Hindu god Shiva is one of the world's greatest pilgrimage destinations especially for Hindus, Buddhist, Jains and others. The breath-taking beauty of this sacred mountain and the holy lake of Mansarover along with ruins of 9th Century of Guge Kingdom in Far Western Tibet are a reward of a lifetime to experience. Recognized by and Popular among People as The Roof of the World, TIBET has fascinated humanity for centuries. This land beyond the mighty Himalayas, on the highest plateau of the world, was inaccessible to the outside world and has always been a challenge to all mortal beings as a unique destination: Tibet is a land of spectacular skylines, majestic mountain peaks, breathtaking canyons, serene high-land lakes, rolling pastures and farmlands & pristine Forests. It also is a land of ancient Buddhist culture, artistic monasteries and centuries-old caravan trails. Its snow-covered mountains and windswept plateau are the highest in the world. The world's highest mountain - Mount Everest, rises in southern Tibet. Ka-erh in western Tibet, with an elevation of more than 15,000 feet (4,570 meters) above sea level, is believed to be the highest town in the world.

The great lakes Manasarovar and RakshasTal which lie in the shadow of Kailash, are also manifestations of aspects of the Hindu religion and symbolize the water tanks at the entrance to every Hindu temple. Manasarovar, shaped like the sun and therefore symbolizing the light, is believed to be the lake formed in the mind of God, created to show the omnipotence of the mind of Brahma. This is why bathing in the lake and drinking in its water is a purifying process for Hindus and a way of reaching the Brahma's paradise. Just one drop of water from the serenely beautiful Manasarovar is said to set one free from the contamination of the poisonous world.

What is the Kailash Yatra by Helicopter via Lucknow?

This Yatra is an organized pilgrimage where devotees travel by helicopter, departing from Lucknow, India, to visit the sacred sites of Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar in Tibet. The journey involves flying over key locations, with stops in Nepal and Tibet.

Is a passport and visa required?

Yes, you’ll need a valid passport and a Chinese visa. The travel operator typically arranges the visa for you. Also, you must have a permit to enter Tibet.

What is the duration of the Yatra?

The Yatra usually lasts about 7-10 days, depending on the specific itinerary and logistics.

What are the physical requirements for the Yatra?

The Yatra takes place at high altitudes, so it’s essential to be in good health. Pilgrims should undergo a medical check-up before departure, and those with heart or respiratory issues are usually advised not to participate.

How much does the Yatra cost?

The cost of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra by helicopter from Lucknow typically ranges between INR 1.5 lakh to 2.5 lakh (or higher) depending on the operator and services included in the package.

What is the best time to go on the Yatra?

The best time for the Yatra is from May to September, as the weather in the region is more stable and favorable for travel. The months of July to August are considered peak season due to the more comfortable weather conditions.

Can I do the Kailash Parikrama (circumambulation) during the Yatra?

Some tour packages offer an option to perform the Kailash Parikrama (a 52 km circumambulation of Mount Kailash) on foot, but this is not always part of the helicopter itinerary. It’s a physically demanding journey and should be checked with the tour operator beforehand.

Are there any age restrictions for the Yatra?

Most tour operators have an age limit of 18 to 70 years for the Yatra. Some operators may allow elderly pilgrims with medical clearance, but it’s always a good idea to consult the operator before booking.

What accommodation is provided during the Yatra?

Accommodations during the Yatra are typically in basic guesthouses or tents in Tibet and Nepal. The facilities are minimal, and comfort is secondary to the spiritual experience of the pilgrimage.

Is this Yatra safe?

The journey involves high-altitude travel, but reputable travel agencies ensure safety by providing experienced pilots, guides, and medical assistance. However, altitude sickness can still be an issue, so it’s important to follow all safety instructions and medical advice.

Do I need to carry my own luggage?

Most tour operators handle luggage transport. Pilgrims are typically allowed only a limited weight (around 10-15 kg) due to weight restrictions on the helicopters.

What medical facilities are available during the Yatra?

There are some basic medical facilities at key locations during the Yatra. Pilgrims are advised to carry personal medications, and some tours include medical assistance in case of emergencies. Severe health issues may require evacuation by helicopter.

What should I pack for the Yatra?

Since the Yatra involves high-altitude travel and variable weather conditions, pack warm clothing (including jackets, gloves, and hats), light clothing for daytime, good trekking shoes, a first aid kit, and essential toiletries. Also, pack your medicines and personal documents like passport, visa, and permits.

Can I join the Yatra if I am not a Hindu?

Yes, the Yatra is open to people of all faiths who wish to visit the holy sites of Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar. However, pilgrims are encouraged to respect the religious customs and practices followed during the journey.

Do I need to be fit for the Yatra?

Although the helicopter ride reduces physical exertion, it is still advisable to be in good health because the high-altitude environment can be challenging. Some walking is involved, so basic fitness will help.

How do I book the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra via Lucknow?

You can book the Yatra through specialized tour operators that offer the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra by helicopter. Make sure to choose a reputable agency with experience in organizing trips to Kailash.

Are there any precautions for high-altitude sickness?

Pilgrims should be aware of the symptoms of altitude sickness, such as headaches, nausea, dizziness, and shortness of breath.
