The trek usually takes around 12-14 days, depending on your itinerary. This includes acclimatization days and the time to get to and from the base camp.
What is the best time to do the Everest Base Camp Trek?
The best times are:
Spring (March to May): Mild weather, clear skies, and comfortable temperatures.
Autumn (September to November): Another ideal period with stable weather and beautiful views. Avoid the monsoon season (June to August) due to heavy rainfall, and winter (December to February) because of harsh weather conditions.
What is the difficulty level of the Everest Base Camp Trek?
The trek is considered moderately difficult due to the altitude and uneven terrain. While it's not a technical climb, it requires a good level of fitness, as you'll be trekking for 5-7 hours a day at high altitudes.
How high is Everest Base Camp?
Everest Base Camp sits at an altitude of 5,364 meters (17,598 feet) above sea level.
How do I get to the starting point of the trek?
The trek starts with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, a small mountain town. From Lukla, you'll trek to Everest Base Camp.
How difficult is the altitude?
Altitude sickness is a concern as you ascend. The symptoms can include headaches, nausea, and dizziness. To minimize the risk:
Acclimatize properly: Spend extra nights in places like Namche Bazaar and Dingboche.
Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol.
Ascend slowly: Never go more than 500 meters higher than your previous night’s altitude.
What type of accommodation can I expect?
Accommodation on the trek is mostly in teahouses (small lodges). These teahouses offer basic facilities like shared bathrooms and simple meals.
What kind of food is available on the trek?
You'll find a variety of food, including:
Dal Bhat (lentil soup with rice) – a staple meal.
Momos (dumplings).
Noodles, pancakes, and other Western-style meals. Expect higher prices the higher you go due to transportation costs.
Do I need a guide or porter?
While not compulsory, hiring a guide or porter is highly recommended. A guide can help with navigation, provide information on the surroundings, and offer assistance in emergencies. A porter will carry your main backpack, lightening your load.
How fit do I need to be for the trek?
A moderate level of fitness is recommended. You don’t need to be an experienced mountaineer, but it’s important to prepare by walking regularly, doing cardio exercises, and training with a pack.

What are the chances of seeing Mount Everest?
While you won’t get a direct view of Everest from Base Camp itself, you'll have fantastic views of Everest and other surrounding peaks along the trek, especially from places like Kala Patthar (5,545 meters), a popular viewpoint.
