Yes, foreign passport holders can do the Inner Kora. It is open to visitors, including tourists. However, you must be aware that the rules and regulations in Tibet can vary, and it's always good to check for any specific restrictions before visiting.
Do I need a special permit to do the Inner Kora?
Yes, to travel to Tibet as a foreigner, you generally need a Tibet Travel Permit (TTP). This is required even for just visiting Lhasa, where the Jokhang Temple and Inner Kora are located. You’ll need to arrange this through a licensed tour agency.
Are there any restrictions on the Inner Kora route for foreigners?
There are no specific restrictions for foreign passport holders regarding the route itself. However, be mindful that certain areas in Tibet can be more sensitive or require additional permissions for access. Always stick to the designated tourist routes.
Is there a dress code or conduct requirement for the Inner Kora?
When doing the Kora, it's essential to dress respectfully. Traditional Tibetan Buddhist culture values modesty, so covering your shoulders and knees is recommended. Additionally, be mindful of your behavior; it’s important to be respectful of the sacred space, especially around pilgrims.
Can I go on the Inner Kora alone or do I need to be with a guide?
While it's possible to do the Inner Kora independently, many foreign travelers prefer going with a guide to ensure they understand the cultural and spiritual significance of the route. If you’re traveling in a group or through a tour agency, a guide is often included.
